Cox's Bazar: Beach Travel & Seafood Guide Watch the vlogCox's Bazar: Beach Travel & Seafood Guide

Why go

Cox's Bazar stretches for around 120 km of sandy coastline along the Bay of Bengal. Sunset at Laboni or Sugandha beach is the classic first evening, and the drive south along the Marine Drive is one of the most scenic roads in the country.

What I ate

Head to the beachside seafood stalls in the evening and pick your fish: rupchanda (pomfret), crab, lobster and prawns are grilled to order with a spicy masala rub. For something to take home, the dried fish (shutki) market is an experience on its own.

Day trips

Inani beach, about 25 km south, has coral stones and calmer water. Himchari has a small waterfall and hill views over the sea. Leave early to beat the midday heat.

Getting there and when to go

Flights from Dhaka take about an hour, and there is now a direct train from Dhaka too. The dry season from November to March has the best weather.
